Prof. Stephen S. Polak, MSA/MSL, MPM®, CPA, PFS, CFE/CFF, CWM/CAM

Prof. Polak started his career with the US Government as a Staff Auditor assigned to the Department of Defense – Defense Contract Audit Agency where he was responsible for auditing all defense contractors in the State of Vermont, as well as, supporting Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) negotiations of the pricing of weapon systems. Prof. Polak has been heavily involved in organizational management, program management and project management for over 25 years.

Currently, Prof. Polak is not only the Financial Products coordinator at Thomas Jefferson School of Law’s Walter H. and Dorothy B. Diamond’s International tax and Financial Services program, but is employed full time by the US Department of the Treasury – Internal Revenue Service as a Senior Internal Revenue Agent in IRS’s Tax Exempt and Government Entity Division as a Federal State and Local Government Specialist where he was recruited to participate in IRS’s three year National Research Project. Prior to this assignment Prof. Polak completed a three tour as a Financial Products and Transaction Examiner with the Large Business and International Division where he was responsible for examining complex financial products developed by investment banks and used by multinational companies.

Prof. Polak is a licensed Certified Public Accountant and holds a Master of Science of Laws in International Tax & Financial Services from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, a Master of Science in Administration and Management from Saint Michaels College and a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Johnson & Wales College. Prof. Polak holds the following credentials that focus on wealth management, Personal Financial Specialist from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and Chartered Wealth Manager and Chartered Asset Manager from the American Academy of Financial Management (AAFM). He has also been licensed as an insurance producer, stock broker and investment advisor while employed by AXA Equitable and then with HD Vest Financial Services when he owned and operated his medium sized CPA Firm.

Prof. Polak also holds two specialized certifications that focus on forensic accounting and financial fraud; they are the Certified Fraud Examiner certificate issued by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) and the Certified in Financial Forensics certification issued by the AICPA and also holds the Master Project Manager and Certified International Project Manager certifications from the American Academy of Project Management AAPM. Prof. Polak is a member of the AAFM and AAPM “Board of Standards – Global Advisory Board” as the academic and US Government Regulatory and Law School Advisor. He also is a member of the AICPA’s Editorial’s Board of Advisors for the Journal of Accountancy and The Tax Advisor where he regularly edits proposed manuscripts for publication.
